MOONFEST and don't hold the MAYO. This year's MOONFEST falls into the category of a miracle. For years MOONFEST has been the most family fun event in West Palm Beach. Held on Downtown's Clematis Street over 40,000 people come out in costume to kick-off the Halloween spirit. After 10 years of successfully producing MOONFEST, the event, the city of West Palm Beach decided to take the event over from the original producers, and hand the event off to the SUNFEST producers. Well, SUNFEST is a successful event but hardly one of a "grass roots" nature where the local shops and businesses can actually afford to support a large scale event. Enter our hero Rodney Mayo, Publisher of Closer Magazine, and owner of many fine local establishments bringing music, art and provocative thinking to an otherwise normal community. Well, last years MOONFEST left something to be desired. What, no lasers, no hot bands, and this year what was going to happen....*Trumpets Trump* Rodney Mayo went to court and got MOONFEST back and this years event, even with little time to prepare and set the stage, was almost as great as their 10th Anniversary MOONFEST two years ago. This years live band line-up uncluded Billy Boloby, Doorway 27, The Bikes, The Mission Veo and Gingersnapped and the West end of Clematis Street was rockin with Respectables Street, The Lounge, O'Sheas Pub and a great Costume Contest. Even the other hot nightspots in the area like Release, Resort and Flow, started their Halloween Weekend festivities early to join into the MOONFEST spirit.
